Too Young
Sometimes traditional medicine is not in our best interest...not because it is intentional, but because doctors may not know any other way...as education comes from the drug companies, per Dr. Stacey Bean, Dr. John Lee, Dr. Joe Mercola, Dr. Russel Blaylock, Platt, Weil...and a host of others who repeat this time and time again in their books, newsletters and other resources. (I'm an avid reader of health and wellness.)
If a young woman has polycystic ovarian syndrome - too often the answer is a hysterectomy. The after affects of this procedure are typically comprised of a form of Hormone Replacement Therapy - aka HRT. HRT is linked to a multitude of side effects, some may be minor, but others, such as cancer...can be fatal.
I'm speaking to the ladies reading this post.... be on guard for your own health's sake!! Do NOT take everything your doctor states as truth...it may not be, but it may be all they know. Doctors are busy people...they do not have time to study outside the realm of their practice, other than what drug companies provide on their latest products. Unless, as some do, they take the initiative and sacrifice perhaps family time to read up on the latest information that may not be published in the American Journal of Medicine. Drug companies have a say in what is published in medical journals as well... per Dr. John Lee, they have a hand in keeping natural healing remedies out of these journals...the fact is, natural does not sell Rx.
Only synthetic, drug company derived prescriptions can make their company money - not God's healing medicines of herbs and other botanicals. The Creator has given us a virtual medicine chest...and there are those well versed in botanicals and science that can take plants, combined with science, to make a bio-identical product that mimics what the body produces...when our bodies fail to produce enough.
In case you are not aware, I am talking about BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY, or bHRT. In regards to my friend, it is possible progesterone could have taken care of her problem back in her 20s, vs. the operation at age 32 that may have been the catalyst for what was to come.
I can't do anything about the past, but I can continue to answer the call to educate as many as will listen, or read, about the benefits of progesterone cream.
An excerpt from an article on uterine cancer: "We know now that progesterone deficiency is linked to an increased risk of cancer. Uterine cancer, for example, is known to be caused by unopposed estrogen. That’s why women who have an intact uterus and take estrogen replacement therapy must also be given some form of progesterone to oppose estrogen and reduce this risk. This is generally given in the form of synthetic progestin (that carry health risks) designed to block estrogen effects, but differs considerably from the molecule that is human-identical progesterone."
To explain this, I would encourage you to read the entire article offered by one of my go to sources:
http://www.natural-progesterone-advisory-network.com/endometrial-uterine-cancer-and-natural-progesterone/
Please understand I am not bashing the medical profession...doctors do as they are told and educated by those who they must answer to, which is probably the hospital that employs them, and hospitals benefit with Big Pharma "partnerships". If you ever have a chance to talk with someone who USED to be in pharmaceutical sales...you will understand. For many, their hands are simply tied.
You don't have to go to med school to be your own best health advocate, but you do need to read and learn. What are you willing to give up to take charge of your health? A weekly television program, reading "shades of gray"...such things are not life changing past times, correct? If you take some time to explore the web site I link above - I suspect you will find the time spent life changing, it could even save your life, or certainly improve it.
My passion is educating family, friends, strangers...seriously, I will talk to anyone who will listen about bHRT. It certainly has contributed to my own well being, and I have had so many women share their testimonies about the improvements to their overall well being once they discover bHRT - aka USP certified bio-identical progesterone transdermal cream. Obviously I cannot convince everyone, especially those in the medical profession. Often there is no interest until cancer hits home. Then, perhaps, this information will be of interest, and unfortunately it can be too late.
Please look into it, contact me if you have questions on this subject and I can probably send you documents, links to articles, etc. As a reminder, I am not nor do I profess to be a doctor - I simply pass along information from those doctors who HAVE taken the time to study that which is not taugh in med school - bHRT. I may not have MD credentials...but frankly, I know more on this subject than those with credentials. Sadly, it does not qualify me to educate family members of those affected by cancer at a local organization geared toward serving families with cancer...the irony of it all.
Our families deserve us, don't you think? I am doing all I can to be around for my children. No, I cannot control my fate, but I can be proactive and make wisened decisions for my own healthful benefit. I hate cancer and hate that it rips families apart. Please be pro-active in your own health care.
In honor of heaven's new angel, God's peace,
Rita S.

Thyroid and the Iodine Bully
The iodine you do consume is likely being blocked by iodine inhibitors present in your processed food and even your hygiene. Per the Women’s Health Institute of Texas, “Iodine is fairly easily displaced from your body by toxins called toxic halides… fluoride, bromine and chloride.
Why is it in our water supply? Poor science combined with corporate greed and political ignorance paved the way. Basically a toxic by-product of aluminum production, fluoridation was sold as a way to prevent cavities because some areas with natural fluoride in the water also had lower instances of tooth decay. Based upon that spurious observation, fluoridation began. 29 30
Then there’s bromine, an endocrine disruptor that competes for the same receptors that capture iodine. Essentially, bromine crowds out iodine.
How prevalent is bromine? Consider this, every time you bite into a piece of store bought bread, you’re probably ingesting some bromine. It’s used to make bread dough more elastic and thus easier to handle, but not by very much.”

Toxins in Western Culture
I came across such a link in my rolling list just now, Dr. Myhill of the United Kingdom, and one section in particular was very interesting. Although the article focuses on WHY we NEED nutritional supplements this day and age, I thought some of the info to be useful for an upcoming presentation on the reason we detox. The entire read on nutritional supplements is HERE, but below is the part I felt important to share right off. I do know it is difficult to lose unwanted weight if your body is deficient on a number of nutrients.
- Increasing toxic stress of Western environments
Xenobiotic chemicals (pesticides, volatile organic compounds and heavy metals) all need to be detoxified and excreted from the body, but this process is highly demanding of micronutrients. Our increasing xenobiotic load increases micronutrient requirements. Furthermore, xenobiotics are directly anti-nutrient: so, for example, nickel increases our requirement for zinc; fluoride increases our need for iodine; and mercury increases our need for selenium.
Xenobiotics come from:
Contamination of our food and water in ways indicated above.
Contamination by packaging – many products are wrapped, and sometimes cooked, in plastics with phthalates leeching into food.
Contamination of the environment by persistent organic pollutants from agricultural industry, polluting industry, war, fires, road traffic and waste disposal.
Cosmetics often contain volatile organic chemicals and/or heavy metals such as nickel and aluminium – this increases the toxic load and thereby the requirements for micronutrients to detoxify them.
Jewellery and piercings increase exposure to toxic metals.
Prescription medication – the best example of this would be the malabsorption induced by proton pump inhibitors and other acid blockers, resulting in an increased risk of osteoporosis. Most drug side effects result from micronutrient deficiencies.
The medication of healthy people, including children, with vaccinations which often contain heavy metals together with live or attenuated viruses. Vaccinations have immune disrupting potential and the potential to switch on novel disease processes.
Dental work and surgical prostheses – these often involve use of heavy metals such as mercury, palladium, titanium, nickel, gold and silicones, all of which may be toxic either directly or through their potential to disrupt the immune system.
Much of the above is a recap of previous posts I have shared from doctors Blaylock, Mercola and Weil's newsletters, but I always find affirmation in my sources when I see multiple doctors stating the same thing.
If you have a new years resolution to lose weight, be aware that most of us are deficient on more than one nutrient. Also be aware that when it comes to vitamin supplementation you truly get what you pay for. The less it costs the more likely you are gaining little nutritional benefit and instead your money spent is being flushed, if you know what I mean. (LOL)
I encourage you to get the best vitamin supplementation you can afford. Sometimes all one has to do is make the decision to give up soda, or daily Starbucks, and exchange those expenses for an investment in one's health. Often times we do not realize how much our little habits add up, and an exchange for a healthier option is going to be one of the greatest investments you can make in your own health. It is the type of gift that keeps on giving as you begin to feel better and become more healthy. From a personal experience, I can think of no better gift to give my family.
To your health,
Rita S.

My Purpose Driven Life
Servitude ...that is truly what my business comes down to. People say to me, "I could never sell." And I think, "well gosh, neither can I!" I have this horrible fear of rejection deep inside. I am sure you can all relate to the fear of rejection, whether it be rejected love, job search rejection, peer rejection...sometimes rejection can consume us.
But there is another entity that can consume us in a powerful way, and that is PASSION and PURPOSE. For most of my life I felt I was searching for this, indeed - I had felt something was "missing". A little more than a year ago a friend offered me the gift of Arbonne. I had no idea what it truly was, and just thought it a great product to get rid of skin tags. But at the same time, a dear friend was dying of prostrate cancer, and both had a commonality - "hormone imbalance". God opened my eyes so I could make the connection.
Knowledge can be powerful...and I set out to learn. I consumed books about hormone imbalance, health and well-being, toxins, physiology - all this "stuff"! What is surprising is that it sinks in to my head, and what's more - it stays there, which is mind-boggling in that I'm pushing 50, and absorbing all this new material as if I were 20 gain. I was never the biology brain in high school, and am certain God has His hand working on my behalf.
God made each of us through divine creation, with machinery inside that is so intricate and connected that it would blow our minds if we truly understood. The miracle that we are was not designed to run on toxic fuel, but on pure and good things from the earth that our Creator has provided. We are humans - we mess things up! In the name of "progress" we are messed up! We make choices, not that different from the "poisonous apple" in the center of the Garden.
It is amazing how God puts people in my path that tell me of their symptoms, or that of a parent, or grandparent. (My husband finds that amazing as well!) My fear tells me to offer sympathy and understanding, and zip my lip. I have to muster my passion to tell them what I have learned that can actually help them, or their loved one, possibly improve their well-being and feel better.
I strongly feel my Purpose is to educate and suggest products and books that can help people feel take control of their health (check the sidebar on the right for helpful links)...the products do not have to come from my company. I can teach people how to shop, and research ingredient labels to watch for the hidden dangers. Some prefer the convenience that my company has done the research for the past 32 years, and I have double checked their work. (LOL) Others become confident in their own ability to read labels - which means I have educated well!
I can only discern that I have, at last, found my life's purpose - to educate and help and serve so that other's do not have to experience what my dearest friend's family went through with cancer. I am not in the business to convince people and sell them on product, but to inform and let them make their own decisions. What it comes down to is that it is not about me, but about them.
Everyone has a RIGHT to go through life feeling great... without prescription drugs and having their insides yanked out. I feel God has taken me on a journey. One that has allowed me to completey turn the clock back and regain my health, and in turn I can teach, help others prevent from going where I was headed, and live life fully as God intended.
To your health, your own journey, and your purpose - God speed!

Hormones - God's Synergy Within
FACT: Men and women produce exactly the same hormones, albeit in different amounts.FACT: Out of balance hormones affect both men and women with a myriad of symptoms and disease.
FACT: Synthetic hormones cannot moleculary duplicate that which God has made.
The truth of the matter is that God created amazing machinery inside us. I wish I could show you a computerized simulation of how DNA, cells and more work inside our body from session 2 of the Truth Project series on science. When I saw that video it was liking watching all the books I have been reading come to life! It was awesome!
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:14
God created hormones that work synergestically together - when our hormones are in sync our bodies are in harmony. When our hormones are out of balance our bodies cannot heal itself as God designed. God did not create a world full of chemicals... man did. These chemicals find their way into our foods, environment, skincare, and even the air we breathe. They alter our hormones - and mess up that which God made. How sad. Sad mostly because we are in general a sick population of people, versus a healthy one. Business is booming for the health care industry - because our hormones our out of whack. Today I am sharing some notes from reading Dr. Platt's book. However, these notes are somewhat repetitive to what I have shared previoulsy in reading Dr. John Lee's books, and more. For me, finding the same information in a multitude of resources gives credibility to the information.
Estrogen is known to cause cancers in both men and women.
1. Breast (men are also diagnosed with breast cancer)
2. Uterine
3. Cervical
4. Vaginal
5. Colon (this includes men as well!)
6. Ovarian
7. Prostrate (around age 50 men’s production of progesterone drops to very low levels)
Excess estrogen may cause Alzheimer’s, strokes, heart attacks, inflammation, fibroids, endometriosis, adhesion, fibrocystic disease, high blood pressure, asthma, migraines, gall bladder, and more.
Progesterone produces a cancer-protective gene known as p53, and it is also effective in rebuilding bone mass in osteoporosis patients.
Why do women need bio-identical progesterone?
• Women stop making progesterone, and because of this there is always a risk for developing breast, uterine, cervical cancer, etc. (progesterone production decreases during peri-menopause in which a woman may no longer ovulate every month)
• Every problem related to estrogen is caused by progesterone deficiency.
Symptoms of estrogen dominance/progesterone deficiency: depression, anxiousness, allergies, asthma, acne, PMS/mood swings, brain fog, infertility, fatigue (experienced late afternoon generally caused by high levels of insulin), morning sickness, migraines, gall bladder pain, cysts, polyps, hot flashes, fat gain, memory loss, etc.
Excerpt from page 161 of Platt’s book: “The Miracle of Bio-Identical Hormones”
“Interestingly, it is more important for men to receive bio-identical hormone placement than it is for women. The consequences of altered hormone levels in men may lead to coronary heart disease, Alzheimer’s, prostrate cancer, colon cancer, osteoporosis, depression, and other diseases.”
An excerpt from “Hormone Healthy” web-site:
Remember: Progesterone is the “mother of all hormones”. It is the raw material from which your body makes all other hormones. It is not simply a sex hormone as it is commonly assumed. If your body is overloaded with environmental estrogens and cannot produce enough progesterone to counteract and balance them – disease is the result.
Progesterone is not an “alternative remedy”, it’s an essential need. If your body cannot produce enough progesterone of its own you need to help it by giving it what it needs to protect your health.
It has been shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that supplementing with USP natural progesterone cream raises progesterone levels and corrects these unchecked estrogens providing relief to a wide range of health issues.
For the complete article visit: http://www.hormone-healthy.com/Benefits_of_Natural_Progesterone.htm
Per Dr. Michael Platt, bio-identical progesterone (not to be confused with synthetic progestin) is the only hormone that is harmless, yet has many, many benefits. All other hormone supplements, such as DHEA, estrogen, testosterone, etc. should be monitored closely.
I hope what I provide today helps you in some way, and perhaps spurs you to think outside the box. I encourage you to share books by Platt and Lee with your doctor, and help them continue their education beyond that which the drug companies teach them. If bio-identical hormones interest you and your doctor is close-minded, there are doctors out there who are willing to listen and even some who use natural hormones in their practice. The Women in Balance web-site, linked in the sidebar at right, has a search engine in which you can type in your zip code and find a doctor near you who incorporates bio-identical hormones into their practice. The Madison area is blessed with several. Follow this link to an excellent article that you could take along with you on your next visit to your primary care provider.

Curbing Insulin Overproduction
My last post addressed insulin, a hormone that when over produced, causes obesity and numerous other diseases. Today I want to share how you can combat the over production of insulin, which many of us over produce daily by age 30 or so. With the current culture of processed foods, junk foods and sweets – I suspect insulin is over produced in many grade school students as well.Insulin production can be reduced with two primary resources: an obvious one, is food choice. A not so obvious resource that can help in the “battle of the bulge”, is natural, or bio-identical progesterone cream. Progesterone is the only hormone produced by the body that can help reduce the production of insulin, per Dr. Michael E. Platt. Platt, in his book, “The Miracle of Bio-Identical Hormones”, states that progesterone is the only natural hormone that is harmless while being substantially beneficially. (Do not confuse natural progesterone with synthetic, harmful progestin. The media is very misleading and confused by the two.) Platt has helped 1000s of people, who come to him for weight loss, by balancing their hormones and putting them on his low-carb, or carb-free diet (catering to each individuals needs).
Personally, when I began incorporating Prolief natural progesterone cream into my daily journey to regain health, the pounds came off effortlessly. I have said this before, but I lost 80 lbs. without exercise. Now that the weight is off, a bit of exertion feels great instead of painful!
But I digress – I definitely want to address prostrate cancer as a wholly devoted post in the near future.
Returning to insulin – food choices also control the production of insulin. Carbohydrates are the culprit – so if you want to either lose weight or get off your diabetes and cholesterol meds – cut the carbs! When I changed my food choices I did not turn my life upside down overnight. Again, it is not willpower, but education, that will lead to successful weight loss, or I should say, permanent weight loss, and healthful living.
Start with the obvious – processed foods and junk food. I actually just learned that two of my favorite low-fat snacks, pretzels and popcorn, are actually two of the highest carbohydrate foods! I am not sure what to do about this new found knowledge yet, as I love hot air popped corn. We may have to start snacking on steak bites! (LOL)
Shop around the outer edges of the grocery, but again, watch the frozen foods for breading, read the labels for MSG, and beware of soy additives, which also have estrogenic properties.
Next, limit sweets. Assess how often you enjoy sweets each week…and gradually cut back so it is only once a week, as a reward for making good choices the rest of the week. Keep in mind that fruits high in sugar are also high in carbs. Choose berries as much as possible, which offer a host of other health benefits. Choose Braeburn apples instead of Red Delicious, and choose Granny Smith instead of Braeburn…wean yourself gradually off the sugar. Grapes are extremely high in sugar, but I admit I enjoy red grapes in my salad now and then. I am not telling you to cut sweets 100%, but be aware and reduce. Eating strawberries or grapes is a whole lot more beneficial than a cookie or a muffin, or a candy bar for a mid-afternoon pick up!
Checking off processed foods, junk foods, deep fried an sweets…now comes the one that is most difficult for many – white breads!! When I hear, “I can’t give up my white bread” that tells me the person is more interested in immediate satisfaction than living a healthier life. Quality of life is up to you – and it IS based on the foods you choose, don’t be fooled into thinking it is not. If you don't care enough about yourself to change, consider your family members and what a severe illness would put them through. After seeing a dear friend in the end stages of prostrate cancer last year, it gave me resolve to not put my family through such trials if it can possibly be avoided.
Beyond bread…simple carbs include white potatoes, rice, PASTA and a multitude of breads such as bagels, English muffins. All carbs produce insulin, but simple carbs produce more than complex carbs, such as brown rice, quinoa, and other vegetables. Complex carbs take longer to digest and process within the body, and therefore the insulin release is more graduall than a spike you get with simple carbs. Reducing breads is often the most challenging – ease in to it. Substitute. The “brown” or multi-grain varieties that you “abhorred” previously will actually grow on your tastebuds, as soon as your brain, programmed to crave the simple carbs and sugars, weans itself off the chemicals that trigger the cravings for unhealthful, past choices. Nowadays, if I indulge in a pastry or such, it is distasteful as my brain no longer craves it. Often it tastes like lard - yuck!

Having Trouble Losing Weight? Could be the drugs...
If you are having trouble losing weight take a look at this list from Platt's book, "The Miracle of Bio-Identical Hormones" to see if your Rx is on there, and possibly causing your body to love its fat.
Anti-depressants cause weight gain, and also increase estrogen levels (SSRI – selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors).
• Zoloft
• Paxil
• Effexor
• Celexa
• Lexapro
• Prozac
Per Dr. Platt, the only anti-depressant that does not cause weight gain is Wellbutrin.
Beta-blockers – a prescription given for thyroid that guarantees weight gain.
Estrogen, which is the largest selling drug in the world. Progestin, like estrogen, is also lipogenic, which produces fat and cellulite, and increases the risk of breast cancer. (Progestin is the synthetic form of progesterone made by drug companies, and must not be confused with natural, bio-identical progesterone which has the opposite effects/counters estrogen.)
Depo-Provera shots for birth control are practically guaranteed a 20 lb weight gain.
Diuretics – prescribed for high blood pressure and can elevate blood sugar, which then increases insulin. Insulin is a fat producing hormone.
Anti-Inflammatory drugs cause an almost immediate weight gain due to fluid retention.
Statin drugs commonly prescribed for high cholesterol (Lipitor, Zocor, Provachol, Mevacor, Lescol, Crestor, etc.) can cause weight gain because they lower CoQ-10, which prevents the conversion of thyroid hormone T-4 into metabolic thyroid hormone T-3. (By the way, anyone utilizing statin drugs should be taking a daily dose of Co-enzyme Q-10 to protect the brain from damaging statin drugs).
Platt states, “Obviously – all of the above are pretty familiar drugs, names many of us have heard of or use. We know family members and friends who are on these drugs. Obesity is a problem in this country – might these drugs contribute. I think so.”
Prescription drugs are known to be the 2nd leading cause of death. In reading this information, wouldn’t you want to avoid Rx at all costs, change your eating habits and use natural compounds, such as BHRT (bio-identical hormone therapy), if necessary, to heal your body? I have read the statistic on the relation of Rx to death causes from a number of books and newsletters now, authored by medical doctors now using a holistic approach. The statistic comes from a published study, not one these doctors have made up. Google the topic and you will find much, click here for one article. Think about how you want to live your life – do you want it full of life and vigor, or go through each day struggling to move, bend over, walk up a hill, or maybe even walk to the mailbox? Do you refuse rides at the amusement park with your child because you can't squish your body into the seat? (that was me a year ago).
Platt’s book reaffirms what I have learned from Dr. John Lee’s books, as well as Dr. Jamie Fettig’s book.
Ailments that have plagued people for years can be alleviated with knowledge and use of the natural elements God has provided us. God didn’t create drugs and chemicals – it’s no wonder that their true cost (not that from the pocketbook) often results in more symptoms and additional illness.
When I finish Platt's book and another on thyroid by Dr. Brownstein, I plan to delve into my new book on alternatives to prescription medicines. My family is wanting to forgo the band-aid approach of Rx and look for real cures.
To your health!

Maintaining Weight Loss
It turns out she had done Weight Watchers and was successful in losing 45 lbs., but had gained it back. Several diets in past years all ended in the same result, loss and regain. This did not surprise me, and is a typical scenario for many women and men. I don’t believe in counting points and eating low-fat foods. I explained to her that low-fat foods are often filled with chemicals that trigger your brain to want to eat more, not to mention loaded with sugar, which messes up hormone balance, necessary for weight loss to be successful.
On my family’s trip to the Black Hills this past week, I began reading a book by Dr. Michael Platt called “The Miracle of Bio-Identical Hormones”. My weight loss has been successful, without exercise, and I have maintained my loss for over 5 months now. Dr. Platt’s book explains so well why I am my own success story – to put it simply, I have changed my body’s production of INSULIN output.
“We have a nationwide epidemic of obesity and type II diabetes. Both of these conditions are strictly hormonal problems.” – Dr. Michael Platt
How many people realize that insulin is indeed a hormone? I did not know this until I started reading Dr. Lee’s books. As Dr. Platt explained how he treats his patients, who come to him for obesity, depression, cancer and more… I realize that the plan I put myself on is very much in line with how he has transformed lives for many, and weaned them off a myriad of Rx drugs that actually increase insulin production.
If a person loses weight, but does not change the underlying problem, weight gain is inevitable.
Not only did I change my way of life to incorporate whole foods, but I also balanced my hormones. Originally I started using progesterone cream to combat my underlying fear of possible growing cancer cells, but I also knew that progesterone could help convert fat cells to energy – and therefore, be an aid in my goal to lose weight. I also had read that it helps prevent hair loss on top of my head – well, what woman does not want that? Those were my three big reasons for incorporating Prolief bio-identical progesterone cream into my routine. At the time I did not realize how important progesterone was in helping me not only lose weight, but maintain my new, smaller self.
Per Dr. Platt 90% of all people produce too much insulin. Sugar produces insulin, and as Dr. Lee had explained to me, white processed flour products are treated just like table sugar in your body – which is why I cut the white carbs, aka pasta, white bread, bagels, muffins, cakes, cookies – not 100%, but the more I cut back the less I craved, and now I even find the taste of some of these products distasteful. (However, I do indulge now and then - but my newly programmed body can deal with it.)
If you are on track for type 2 diabetes, fear cancer, or want to feel better - which is where I was a year ago, you have to be willing to change your life. A statement by Dr. Platt sums it up well:
“For most people, insulin is the enemy. Insulin creates fat by taking any sugar the muscles have no need for and placing it into fat cells, where sugar is immediately converted to fat. Then insulin sits there preventing release of fat from the fat cells – it is a fat-storing hormone.”
As I gather from Platt’s book, and as I surmised by studying Dr. Lee’s works – hormones are critical as well. If your body is already programmed to generate insulin (remember, this is a hormone) from poor diet, simply changing the diet will not rebalance the hormones. Natural progesterone cream helps restore balance – and is key to maintaining a successful weight loss program. When your body has excess of various hormones (estrogen, insulin, cortisol, etc.) it is often accompanied by deficiency in progesterone.
Dr. Platt has over 30 years of clinical practice in California, helping people enjoy quality of life again. He has had patients who had weighed over 400 lbs. become fit – and exercise is not brought into his program until after the weight loss.
It is good to move, for sure, but I want you to know that you CAN lose weight by eating hormonally balanced foods and incorporating natural hormone supplementation in to your life – it may be progesterone, it could by thyroid (low thyroid function and weight gain go hand in hand)…every person is an individual. In seeking counsel of a professional, it is important to find one that truly understands hormone balance, and in all likelihood, it will not be found at your traditional family clinic. I would elaborate, but instead, encourage you to read “The Miracle of Bio-Identical Hormones” by Michael E. Platt, MD.
If you can relate to any of these words: obesity, thyroid, cancer (breast, prostrate, colon and more), fatigue, depression, diabetes, stress, ADD, ADHD, migraines, Alzheimers, auto-immune disorders, and a whole lot more – please do your own diligence for your well-being and get this book. Dr. Platt explains the traditional medical profession and how his formal training failed his patients. It is not the fault of medical doctors by any means, but the education system that trains our trusted doctors. Platt’s book would, indeed, be a great gift for any doctor who truly wants to heal patients, starting with the underlying cause, versus giving a drug that masks symptoms for temporary relief. As my husband says, and I thought this was a brilliant statement, “Time to get off the band-aid and on to the cure.”
I have so many notes on this book… I look forward to sharing more with friends and family at my “Essentials Health abd Well-Being” classes – and more here as time allows.
To Your Health,
Rita S.

Are Wrinkles and Osteoporosis Related?
The report stated that the greater the number of horizontal and vertical lines between the eyes (from squinting) , the lower the bone density was to likely be in the hip. (Well, of course you know what I did when I read that…I ran right into the bathroom to look in the mirror – whew! No wrinkles!!) On the plus side, the fewer wrinkles a woman has on her face and forehead, the stronger their bones at the hip and spine, the study showed. These findings may turn out to be particularly meaningful if future studies determine the same outcome, and it could help doctors be alerted to potential osteoporosis by examining a women’s skin.
When I read about this study it reminded me of other studies that have been done, showing an increase in bone mineral density for women using bio-identical progesterone cream. Progesterone BUILDS bone mass, whereas estrogen prevents further loss. Again – progesterone BUILDS BMD – this is very important to know because most often doctors will prescribe a form of estrogen or synthetic estrogen when a woman is diagnosed with osteoporosis. Estrogen only stops bone loss, of which there already may have been a significant amount. Use of progesterone, on the other hand, can actually rebuild bone mass, according to the studies, reported in Dr. John Lee’s book, “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause”. Click here for some links to articles by Lee on osteoporosis: http://www.virginiahopkinstestkits.com/osteoporosisleadin.html
Another positive benefit of natural progesterone cream for the older generation (and nowadays, even the young as I read obits of people in their 20s dying from stroke!) are studies showing the aid it provides for stroke victims. http://www.virginiahopkinstestkits.com/progesterone_stroke.html
Applying a topical progesterone cream to the forehead apparently helps brain cells repair more quickly. This makes me wonder if studies are being done to examine the benefits of progesterone for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s patients, and I do believe I have read some about this as well. It makes sense to me, afterall, our brains contain more progesterone than any other part of our body, other than the uterus when a woman is pregnant. It makes sense that a drop in progesterone levels would affect brain function.
Today I read in the news that long time country singer, Glen Campbell, (I grew up with his music in our home!) has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in the early stages. My first thought when I read this was to wonder if he had been on statin drugs for high cholesterol…if I were a betting gal, I would put money on it. Vitamin deficiency is another cause, in particular the B vitamins, which are critical for repairing brain DNA. (I am so glad my husband no longer needs statin drugs and we were able to lower his cholesterol numbers through diet and vitamin supplementation.)
Sorry, I digress…diseases that affect the brain are an entirely different topic; but wait, that’s not true! Osteoporosis and brain function share a commonality in the need for balanced hormones and diet in order to avoid both of these disabling diseases. A separate report also shows that estrogen can negatively affect the brain as it is an excitotoxin in excess. So I question…if estrogen supplements are prescribed to a woman to stop bone loss, and they are not given progesterone to maintain balance (which would also increase bone density) – then aren’t these women more susceptible to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s? It seems so – check this report http://www.virginiahopkinstestkits.com/brainonhormones.html
I have a relative in advanced stages of Alzheimer’s, and having learned this, I have a need to know if she was ever on Rx for bone loss and if so, what it may have been (PremPro, for instance).
Mr. Campbell will always be my Rhinestone Cowboy! I wish him the best and pray that as well as top medical doctors, his family is also seeking counsel from a doctor who is practicing alternative or holistic medicine. I am confident, with all the studies being done in holistic medicine, that early stages could be kept to just that, and even reversed? I just read about success with this shortly after I typed this thread initially. Who knows for sure? I must say, when I apply my Prolief progesterone cream, alternating the places on my body in which I apply it as directed, I do feel some confidence in knowing that when I apply it to my forehead (as in Dr. Bean's instructions) that I am perhaps helping my brain repair cells and hopefully preventing possible health issues down the road.
Interesting information to think about today, don't you agree?

Why use pure and safe products?
So again, weight loss began with detoxification, healthful choices both on my skin and ingested orally, and helping my hormones return to balance with bio-identical progesterone cream.
Our coffeeshop in town has a nice little pub called Natural Awakenings -it's a freebie devoted to healthy living for a healthy planet. I thought I would share some ingredients to watch out for in your personal care products - but don't ask me how to pronounce them! Check out the Environmental Working Group for information on ingredient evaluation. Quoting from The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, "While the European Union has banned 1,100 chemicals from cosmetics, the United States has banned just 10. Only 11 percent of chemicals used in cosmetics in the United States have been assessed for health and safety."
Parabens - many people are familiar with this one, and I can even say the word without scratching my head. Parabens, or any words ending in "...paraben" affects the hormones, aka endocrine disruptor. You would not believe how many health issues are related to our endocrine system...but if you start checking out the links on the right column of this blog you can begin to find out!
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) - toxic, contaminanat
Sodium lauryl, or laureth, sulfate - contaminant that may cause skin damage. (basically, per my hair stylist - it is a skin irritant and responsible for the little flakes so many people have due to the inexpensive and harsh shampoos out there).
Triclosan and triclocarban anti-bacterials - unfortunately we are not having any success in finding a bulk sized anti bacterial handsoap that does not contain these ingredients, which present potential thyroid concerns.
Triethanolamin (TEA) - contaminant that may trigger allergies
Dimethylol Dimethyl (DMDM) hydantoin and Imidazolidinyl urea - preservatives that release formaldehyde
Fragrance and dyes - may cause allergies or cancer and affect the nervous system
Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone - preservatives that may cause allergies and affect the nervous system.
Can you imagine the number of points you would score in a Scrabble game with those last two ingredients??! Wow! Truly words that would be deserving of a spelling bee championship!
In celebration of warmer weather and my new sandals...I did something Saturday night that I told myself I would never do again after becoming a wise and health-conscience consumer. Can you guess what I did? Yep, I painted my toenails!! I tried not to breathe in the xenoestrogen fumes and the whole while doing it all I could think of was how bad this was for me, and that 60% of the chemicals in the drops that got onto my skin were absorbed into my bloodstream in less than 30 seconds!! Okay, there is no joy in painting toenails any longer, although I do think the shade of purple is quite pretty. To make it worse, the following day I picked up the issue of "Natural Awakenings" and there is a Q&A column that states, "...It's hard to get colors, especially bright, deep, rich shimmering ones - to stick to nails; consequently, of all cosmetics, nail polishes tend to contain the most toxins," per Renee Loux, autho of "Easy Green Living". Loux goes on to say that there are polishes out there that do not contain the toxin toluene, which is linked to severe respiratory and nervous system problems, as well as kidney and liver functions. Ummm...I guess I better find a safe alternative for my next nail painting urge. If you are using a toluene free brand and like it, please share. Sandal season is upon us, and although my nails look healthier than they have in years...I simply am not fond of my toes without a little color.

A Helpful Site to Share
The link I provided takes you directly to a list or symptoms and concerns. You can find the ones that relate to you, click and read what is to be said. I was specifically looking up thyroid information for a friend, and will share with you directly from the site:
Will progesterone help improve thyroid function?
A good number of women who approach the Natural Progesterone Advisory Network.com website present with symptoms that indicate possible thyroid dysfunction and yet, according the info provided, thyroid tested results are all clear. A few months on progesterone cream and, remarkably, all their apparent thyroid symptoms appear resolved.
Evidently estrogen dominance not only contributes to lethargy, fluid retention and weight gain, it has a negative impact on thyroid performance. Therefore, if you have been diagnosed with a thyroid problem, are on thyroid medication and now want to incorporate natural progesterone into your regime, there’s no reason why you can’t, providing you do so under the strict supervision of your treating physician.
Your thyroid medication, however, may require regular adjustment as progesterone cream exerts an influence upon the thyroid gland.
Thyroid function can be improved with supplements of trace minerals such as selenium, iodine, zinc and manganese. Selenium particularly has been known to “enhance” thyroid medication.
Therefore, if you are unsure whether your thyroid is functioning optimally (this can be characterized by the inability to lose weight, puffy and swollen body appearance, lethargy, muscle weakness, dry skin, hair loss and constipation) you might well be advised to ask your doctor to order the appropriate tests. This includes blood profile to measure the levels of both thyroid hormones, T4 and T3, and also TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). A shortage of T4 would be administered in the form of thryoxine tablets. In the U.S. thyroid replacement therapy is available in cream form by way of natural thyroid hormone replacement using bio-identical hormones.
Hormone imbalance is truly the cause for so many things wrong with our bodies. We can avoid surgery by using natural supplements, such as progesterone cream applied to skin 1-2x daily. Who would not rather apply a cream than have your innards yanked out? Or take drugs with side effects that make one naueseous. Oh, and I learned from a friend that they make drugs to help reduce the nausea caused by the drugs taken. It is definitely a viscious cycle, and one that I hope and intend to avoid...always!

Must Know Health News Releases
One person asked if I would be publishing the information on my blog - I have considered this. It would require me posting it in sections, and I would have to post successively for it to be most helpful to readers. It will take some time to get this worked out, so it reads well in blog format and makes sense. I may not get to it until after Christmas.
Meanwhile - please keep educating yourself. Here is a link to several new health watch articles released today - one by Dr. Zava that helps those confused by the claim that progesterone causes cancer - when in fact it is the synthetic progestin. Today I was on the Susan G Komen site and from some of the information I read on the science and research link - I am not sure they are even aware of the media mixing up progestin with natural progesterone. This concerns me.
Komen also do not seem to be concerned, or aware of, xenoestrogens...found in our hygiene products. The article states parabens do not cause cancer. Perhaps, in itself, parabens, petro-chemicals and other chemicals in our skin care products do not - but they are endocrine disruptors, and all are xenoestrogens according to Dr. Lee which means they are estrogen hormone imposters...and the body can't tell the difference between the imposters and the real thing...they come together inside a cell and it spells trouble! I pray that Komen for the Cure is putting some of their cancer research donations into hormone imbalance as a cancer cause....oh wait, that's been done - so I hope they communicate with all the research and case studies already cited in Dr. John Lee's book, and come up to date. Cancer cure IS already available.
The foundation is receiving money from our events, and I plan to include a letter in this regard. I would like to think that they are not funding research solely being conducted by those that produce drugs and make lots of money doing so. I have some issues with that. I was very glad to hear that Susan G Komen helps women who cannot afford screening or treatment receive aid for the services - and in my donation envelope I would like to designate the funds be used for that purpose. I wonder if one can do that....
Please take time to read some of these latest articles...I have to go back and read the one on the elderly and medicine, since I saw the word diabetes mentioned, and it affects my mother and therefore my family.
Focus on purely living,
Rita
